The landmarked homes between 86th and 98th present a specific problem after construction: the fine dust settles into plaster moldings, ceiling medallions, picture rails, casement tracks and the joints of herringbone floors, and the surfaces it settles on are irreplaceable. We remove it in passes — bulk first, a second pass after resettling, then detail — using soft brushes and cloths on moldings and medallions, a vacuum with a brush head on paneling and shutters, and never a wet cloth on plaster. Floors are done last each pass with a neutral product, damp-mopped, never soaked.

Residue is treated the same way: paint splatter lifted from floors and hardware with a product suited to the surface, caulk and adhesive removed from new marble and tile with non-abrasives, grout haze cleared with the right cleaner so the new stone isn't etched. New cabinetry is cleaned inside; vents, fixtures and light fittings cleared; window tracks and sills detailed; walls and baseboards wiped. The kitchen and bathrooms are sanitized to finish, and marble is dried so it doesn't spot.
